Resilient by Design: The Future of High-Performance Homes

The global warming ship has sailed.  Hurricanes, floods, droughts, extreme weather, and forest fires are going to happen more frequently and in more places.  Our two best strategies are to do everything possible to slow down global warming and build resilient buildings.

This session will focus on the following issues:

  1. Forest fires, Wildland Urban Interface zones (WUI), WUI regulations,
  2. Best practices for reducing structure fire risk in the residential built environment.
  3. Forest fire smoke and strategies to improve indoor air quality
  4. Renewable + battery strategies for power outages
  5. Hurricanes and the new Fortified building certification program for reducing hurricane risk in the residential built environment.
  6. Flooding and flood risk management in the residential built environment.
  7. Low carbon home certification programs
